LG Uplus will roll out the "ixi-O roaming call" service, which lets users make voice calls overseas starting in Japan without international calling charges.
LG Uplus said on the 5th that it plans to expand the service area to about 100 countries, including Southeast Asia, China and Europe, within the second half of this year.
ixi-O roaming call is a service that allows users of LG Uplus' AI calling app "ixi-O" to make calls overseas as they do domestically while staying abroad on a U+ roaming plan or on Wi-Fi. No separate international calling charges are imposed, reducing the burden of calling family, acquaintances and business contacts during travel or business trips.
LG Uplus planned this service to reduce customer inconvenience from avoiding voice calls abroad. A survey of roaming users over the past year found that many mainly use messenger calls instead of regular calls due to cost concerns and uncertainty about billing methods.
The service will be expanded in phases, focusing on regions with strong demand from Korean visitors. LG Uplus conducted pre-launch quality checks in partnership with overseas carriers, as call quality may vary by country's network environment. It verified whether key functions of ixi-O operate stably in roaming environments, with a focus on providing a user experience similar to that in Korea.
