Anthropic resumed global service of the artificial intelligence (AI) model Claude Fable 5 after the U.S. government lifted export controls.
Anthropic said on X (formerly Twitter) on the 1st (local time) that "Fable 5 is back." Fable has performance on par with Mythos, which is known for expert-level security vulnerability detection, but it is a model with safeguards to avoid questions on topics that could be misused for hacking or weapons making, such as cybersecurity or biology and chemistry.
Users can again access Fable 5 in Claude, Claude Code, and Claude CoWork operated by Anthropic. Anthropic said Pro, Max, Team, and corporations plan users can use Fable 5 from today through the 7th within up to 50% of their remaining usage limit, and after that they can access it with additional charges. Fable 5 service will also resume soon on cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (MS) Azure, and Google Cloud.
As it brought back Fable 5, Anthropic also explained the security concerns the U.S. government had raised about "jailbreaking" and the measures taken in response. Anthropic said the technique did not expose cyberattack capabilities at the level of Mythos, and noted that this kind of technique applies to AI models beyond Mythos and Fable. Even so, Anthropic added that, in cooperation with the U.S. government, it improved the model to block more than 99% of the reported risky behavior.
With the U.S. government lifting export restriction guidelines, Fable 5 has been opened worldwide, but overseas use of Mythos 5 is expected to remain difficult for the time being, Bloomberg News reported that day. The U.S. government is strictly controlling access to Mythos 5, focusing on a limited number of trusted corporations and institutions in the United States.
Anthropic had originally planned to expand Mythos 5 to more than 150 institutions in 15 countries through the security vulnerability detection consortium Project Glasswing, but it is currently said to be restoring access only for partners in the United States.
Accordingly, it is expected to take some time before domestic corporations and institutions, including Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and SK Telecom, which are reportedly participating in Project Glasswing, can use Mythos 5.
