"Nintendo Switch 2" console price will rise by 110,000 won starting in September.
Korea Nintendo said on the 29th it will change the suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 console from 648,000 won to 758,000 won. The new price takes effect Sept. 1.
Korea Nintendo had earlier raised the price of the previous-generation model, "Nintendo Switch," as well. On the 25th of last month, the price of the Nintendo Switch OLED model rose from 415,000 won to 465,000 won, and the standard model from 360,000 won to 410,000 won. The Switch Lite model was also increased from 249,800 won to 279,800 won.
Industry officials point to "chipflation" as the backdrop for the latest price hikes. Demand for semiconductors for artificial intelligence (AI) servers has surged recently, driving up prices of key components such as DRAM and NAND flash.
Korea Nintendo said, "As a result of reviewing future global business viability in line with changes in various market conditions, we decided to change the suggested retail price of the Nintendo Switch 2 console in Korea."
