STMicroelectronics (ST) said on the 29th that it released the ST54M, a secure mobile chip.
The ST54M is a device that integrates a hardware accelerator for post-quantum cryptography (PQC), near field communication (NFC), a secure element, and eSIM functionality into a single integrated circuit (IC). It supports a wide range of use cases, including contactless payments, public transportation tickets, access control, digital ID verification and driver's licenses, and digital car keys.
As the use of mobile devices grows in financial transactions and identity authentication, carrier services, and secure access, demand is rising for integrated solutions that meet security, performance, and convenience at the same time. The ST54M is designed to help OEMs and ecosystem partners support multiple applications on a single platform while preparing for the transition to PQC. It can be used across the entire ecosystem of personal electronic devices, including mobile network operators, banks, government agencies, public transportation operators, vehicle manufacturers, and digital wallet providers, and it allows ample time to respond to the expected mandatory market adoption requirements around 2030.
Equipped with large-capacity memory and an enhanced radio frequency (RF) front end, it improves performance and read/write stability even with a small antenna and single-ended configuration, and it can also implement demanding use cases such as mobile payment terminals (mPOS) and wireless charging. The platform has completed Common Criteria (CC) 2022 EUCC and EMVCo certification tests, demonstrating suitability for security-sensitive mobile applications.
