SpaceX, the aerospace corporations led by Elon Musk, will acquire the optical-communication technology startup Mesh Optical Technologies.
According to Bloomberg on the 26th (local time), the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) saw little concern about anticompetitive effects from SpaceX's acquisition of Mesh Optical and approved the transaction after an expedited review.
Mesh Optical is a corporations founded by engineers from SpaceX. They are known to have participated in developing laser link communication technology for SpaceX's satellite internet service Starlink.
The company has been developing optical transceivers used to exchange data between data centers. An optical transceiver is equipment that transmits information using light, and Mesh Optical's technology is considered more power-efficient and lower-latency than existing methods. Mesh Optical also raised $50 million (about 76 billion won) in February, led by Thrive Capital.
