The sequel to the crime action game series that has sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6, began preorders ahead of its release in November.
Rockstar Games on the 25th opened the preorder page for GTA 6 and said the game will be released Nov. 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The price is set at 89,800 won for the standard edition and 112,800 won for the ultimate edition.
Some had noted that the package price of GTA 6 could exceed $100 (about 150,000 won) given the high development expense, but both editions are priced under $100 at $79.99 and $99.99 for the North American version.
Ultimate edition buyers will get an exclusive, members-only vehicle collection, weapons, outfits and special missions. Rockstar Games said users who preorder the game by Nov. 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, which recreates the vibe of GTA: Vice City.
GTA 6 will be the first in the series to be released only as a digital version without separate storage media. Physical package buyers will also receive a download code and, like digital buyers, will be able to pre-download the game on Nov. 12.
The PC platform was excluded from this release. Considering that Rockstar Games' previous titles GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles first, the PC version is expected in about one to two years.
GTA is a crime action game franchise that has sold more than 400 million copies worldwide. In particular, GTA 5, which first came out in 2013, sold 220 million copies across all platforms, becoming the second best-selling game in global gaming history.
Foreign media estimate that the total production expense for GTA 6, the first sequel in 13 years, amounts to about $3 billion (about 4.5 trillion won), the largest scale in the history of the game industry.
