OpenAI said on the 19th that it is expanding its "ChatGPT ads pilot" to Korea.
OpenAI said the ads had transfer been run first in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and that in the early pilot markets it saw strong interest from corporations that want touchpoints with customers through a conversational environment.
The ads will be limited to adult users on the free and Go plans for ChatGPT. Users on the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans will not see ads.
Ads are clearly separated from answers generated by ChatGPT and are labeled so users can easily see they are "sponsored content." Advertisers cannot influence ChatGPT's answers, and the ads do not affect the objectivity or independence of the responses.
Users' conversation content and personal information are not provided to advertisers. Advertisers can see only aggregated performance data such as ad views and clicks, and cannot access individual users' conversation content, chat history, or personal information.
Users can hide displayed ads or provide related feedback, and can directly manage ad personalization and their ad experience in settings. OpenAI said it plans to continuously improve ad relevance and the overall user experience based on user feedback.
Ads are also not shown to any account confirmed to be a minor or predicted to possibly be a minor. It is designed so that ads do not appear in conversations on sensitive or potentially regulated topics such as mental health or politics.
OpenAI Korea Country Manager Kim Kyung-hoon said, "OpenAI's mission is to ensure AI benefits all of humanity," adding, "Ads can help expand access so more people can use ChatGPT's useful AI features without expense burden."
