Tmap Mobility said on the 18th that it unveiled the concept of a next-generation "3D lane-recognition navigation" for the first time at Nextrace 2026, the country's largest startup exhibition.
That day, Tmap Mobility demonstrated a futuristic 3D lane-recognition navigation and presented a 3D driving concept video at a separate booth inside a joint pavilion operated by Renault Korea. Visitors can experience the 3D navigation more vividly through a demonstration that reproduces the section before and after the north end of Hannam Bridge.
The 3D lane-recognition navigation unveiled this time switches seamlessly from a conventional 2D map to a 3D map when entering a service-available section while driving. It features a stereoscopic rendering of the actual driving environment that improves the visibility of various traffic information such as junctions and ramps.
Since last year, Tmap Mobility has been pursuing the development of a 3D-based lane-recognition navigation optimized for future infotainment and Autonomous Driving environments, based on its self-built high-definition road map (HD map). A company official said, "In the era of Autonomous Driving, the in-vehicle infotainment system must allow drivers to intuitively grasp their current location and surroundings, and this is regarded as a key factor in enhancing trust in Autonomous Driving and the user experience."
Tmap Mobility aims to commercialize the service in 2027, starting with nationwide expressways and arterial expressways, and plans to expand its application to major urban areas. It is also pushing to integrate Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) sensor recognition into the 3D map to implement a lane-level route guidance function linked with in-vehicle precise positioning technology.
Kim So-hee, Tmap Mobility's future mobility leader, said, "We will continue to enhance our 3D lane-recognition navigation service optimized for the future mobility environment, based on our proprietary HD map technology."
Meanwhile, Nextrace 2026 is the country's largest event involving domestic and overseas corporations, startups, and venture investors, and will be held at COEX in Seoul for two days from the 18th to the 19th.
