Kim Jong-hun, an employee of SK hynix, donated 100 million won and joined the high-value donor group of the Community Chest of Korea, the "Honor Society." Following the anonymous enrollment of an SK hynix employee in the North Chungcheong area, this is the second time this year that an SK hynix employee has joined the Honor Society.
The Community Chest of Korea said on the 18th that Kim donated 100 million won and joined as the 3,958th member of the Honor Society. In the Gyeonggi area, he is the 400th member. The Honor Society is a group of individual high-value donors who have donated at least 100 million won or pledged to donate 100 million won within five years.
Regarding the background of the donation, Kim said, "I have worked intensely at SK hynix and taken part in building the world's future, and thanks to the growth of the AI Semiconductor industry and the company's成果, I received happiness beyond measure," adding, "Now I wanted to extend the fruits of that technology to society and practice sharing that warmly brightens the future of our neighbors."
Kim also said, "I hope the development of AI and semiconductor technology will lead to opportunities and hope for more people so that no one is left out," and "I did not hesitate to decide to donate because I believed I had already enjoyed as much as I needed."
Kim has taken part in volunteer activities since school days and has experienced the value of sharing, the account said. The experience of participating in a college student volunteer program run by SK Telecom also became a turning point that inspired a desire to help neighbors in need, Kim noted.
Internal training at the company last year also influenced the decision to donate. Kim said, "Through this time, I realized that true happiness lies not in having more but in sharing what you have." Kim added, "Thanks to my family's support, I was able to muster greater courage, and I hope this donation will be a good example for my child," and said, "I am grateful to have joined the Honor Society before turning 40, and my new goal is to continue donating throughout my life going forward."
Before Kim, an employee in their 40s, identified as A and working at the SK hynix Cheongju campus, also donated 100 million won to the Community Chest of Korea in North Chungcheong on Jan. 1, becoming the 99th Honor Society member in North Chungcheong. It was the first case of an office worker joining the North Chungcheong Honor Society, which had been composed mainly of corporations.
Other cases of support by SK hynix employees also became known early this year. In February, a post appeared on an anonymous office worker community stating that a user marked as an SK hynix employee delivered pizza, fruit and snacks to a childcare facility in Sejong. The support later led to fundraising for a library remodeling at the facility.
According to membership status by occupation released by the Community Chest of Korea, as of the day, the Honor Society has 3,958 members. Among them, businesspeople numbered 1,945, accounting for 49.14%. Professionals numbered 528 (13.34%), self-employed 257 (6.49%), and corporate and group executives 118 (2.98%). Other members, including office workers and anonymous donors, totaled 947 (23.93%).
