Sam Altman, chief executive officer (CEO) of OpenAI, is said to have postponed a visit to Korea for family reasons related to the birth of his second daughter.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 18th, Altman was scheduled to visit Korea from the 14th for an overnight, two-day trip, but postponed the trip as it overlapped with the due date for his second daughter.
With the schedule change at the time, not only the Korea visit but also the previously announced trips to Japan and Europe were canceled.
Altman was initially expected to meet with major domestic corporations during this visit to discuss cooperation plans in artificial intelligence (AI). While asking for understanding about the postponement, Altman's side reportedly sent an email saying there would be no issues with business cooperation with Korea.
Although Altman's trip to Korea was postponed, visits to Korea by OpenAI's senior officials proceeded as planned. Two senior officials, including Mark Chen, OpenAI's chief research officer (CRO), visited Korea on the 14th–15th.
However, they were not known to have held a separate meeting with Samsung Electronics during the visit.
