Chairman Kwak Dong-shin of HANMI Semiconductor disclosed on the 16th that he completed a personal purchase of company shares worth 8 billion won. The acquisition price was 338,917 won per share, implementing the share buyback plan disclosed on May 19. With this, Chairman Kwak has acquired a cumulative 64.5 billion won (716,055 shares) in treasury shares since 2023, and the equity stake rose to 33.59%.
The latest purchase is seen as a move that demonstrates confidence in technology and growth potential in the global high-bandwidth memory (HBM) equipment market. HANMI Semiconductor holds the global No. 1 position in the TC bonder equipment segment essential for producing HBM, a core component of AI Semiconductor. While continuing to supply the HBM4 mass-production "TC Bonder 4" and "TC Bonder 4.5," the company is also preparing to launch a second-generation hybrid bonder prototype at the end of this year and to roll out a "Wide TC Bonder" in the first half of next year.
Growth momentum is also clear. HANMI Semiconductor decided on the 12th to make a strategic investment of 50 billion won in SpaceX. It was a preemptive bet on the "Terafab" project that Elon Musk is pursuing in Austin, Texas, to in-house produce AI Semiconductor for SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI. Planned at $119 billion (about 177 trillion won), Terafab aims to begin operations in 2028, with about 80% of the semiconductors produced to be used in SpaceX's aerospace and data centers and the remainder to go into Tesla's autonomous driving cars and Optimus robots.
The push into the U.S. market is also accelerating. HANMI Semiconductor will establish a local subsidiary, "HANMI USA," in San Jose, Calif., at the end of this year and begin providing technical support to local semiconductor corporations. The move aligns with the trend of Micron, SK hynix, Amkor Technology, and Intel expanding local investment on the back of support from the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act (CHIPS Act). A company official said, "This share buyback reflects our commitment to responsible management and expresses our confidence in growth tied to our Terafab supply targets," adding, "We will strengthen our global leadership in AI Semiconductor and advanced packaging markets."
