NHN said on the 11th it has appointed Yang Cheol-ung, head of the technology division, as chief technology officer (CTO).
NHN explained it made the appointment to respond to a market environment where the AI-native shift and securing future technological competitiveness are becoming more important, and to accelerate groupwide technological innovation.
CTO Yang holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and is a technology expert with more than 20 years of experience in internet infrastructure and traffic optimization, networks, security, and cloud. Since 2022, he has been with NHN Cloud, serving as head of the Security Development Lab.
Going forward, CTO Yang will boost the organization's execution speed through AI-driven development innovation and systematize the technology roadmap and research and development direction to enhance the group's technological competitiveness. He will lead the spread of AI use and technical collaboration across the group and focus on AX (AI transformation).
On the 10th, at a town hall meeting for NHN employees, he presented "speed and direction" as the key keywords for a technology organization in the AI era. The strategy is to raise the organization's productivity and execution through AI.
CTO Yang said, "AI is becoming more than a simple tool; it is becoming a colleague we work with," and added, "As important as moving fast is moving in the right direction. Based on our technology strategy and execution, we will pursue consolidation of the group's technological capabilities and create synergy."
