Kakao Games will develop traditional cultural products using the intellectual property (IP) of Supercat's upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) "World of Dokkaebi."
Kakao Games said on the 11th it signed a business agreement with the Korea Craft & Design Foundation to develop traditional cultural products using the "World of Dokkaebi" IP.
The agreement is part of the "2026 corporations-linked traditional cultural product development" project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation. Kakao Games and Supercat plan to introduce in-game costumes and real-life outfits that reinterpret hanbok, Korea's traditional attire, in a modern way using the "World of Dokkaebi" IP.
The project will feature participation from OUWR, a hanbok brand that presents traditional patterns as modern pattern designs, with plans to showcase products that combine the beauty of traditional culture with the creativity of game content. They will also push ahead with the development of goods that blend the game's universe with traditional culture.
Through the collaboration, Kakao Games plans to reinterpret the value of traditional culture as game content and richly expand the uniquely Korean universe of "World of Dokkaebi."
World of Dokkaebi is a 2.5D MMORPG characterized by distinctive graphics with a retro pixel sensibility. Pre-registration will begin in July, and development is underway with a goal of launching in the third quarter of this year. It features high-freedom skill deck building that breaks down job boundaries and clan-centered cooperative content.
Cha Myeong-su, head of business at Kakao Games, said, "This collaboration is a meaningful opportunity to newly present the unique value and beauty of traditional culture through game content," adding, "We are preparing to provide users with a different experience by combining the Korean universe of 'World of Dokkaebi' with traditional culture."
