The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, cited as one of the greatest masterpieces in video game history, will be remade after 28 years.
Nintendo revealed the remake trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as the final segment of its Nintendo Direct new-title showcase on the 10th.
The trailer shows the world explained in tapestry form and the young protagonist L.I.N.C rendered with the latest graphics, lying asleep in bed. It then revealed, along with the game logo, that it will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 platform in 2026.
Nintendo producer Koizumi Yoshiaki said, "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming back to life on Nintendo Switch 2 in a new form," and noted, "We will provide detailed information at a later date."
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time first launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1998. It scored 99 on the aggregate site Metacritic and received perfect marks from major game outlets such as Famitsu, IGN, and GameSpot. It is regarded as a work that influenced countless 3D action games that followed and is cited as one of the greatest masterpieces in video game history.
Meanwhile, at the showcase, Nintendo announced in-house titles and partner releases including Xenoblade Genesis and Fire Emblem Manjachunghong.
Duskblood, the next game from FromSoftware, creator of Elden Ring, and a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, said it will run a closed network test this summer. It also newly unveiled paid DLC (downloadable content) for popular titles such as Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokemon Pokopia.
Stellar Blade from SHIFT UP will arrive within the year, and Neowiz's Lies of P will release its Nintendo Switch 2 version on Aug. 6.
