SK Telecom made an additional investment in Anthropic.
Jung Jai-hun, SK Telecom chief executive officer (CEO), met with reporters in Tokyo on the 10th and said, "We recently made an additional investment in Anthropic," adding, "We were an early investor, which gave us an opportunity to participate in the follow-on investment." He added, "We judged it was better to continue investing because we plan to maintain our partnership rather than focus on the revenue when Anthropic succeeds in an initial public offering (IPO)."
Anthropic's current corporations value is about $965 billion (about 1,325 trillion won), and SK Telecom made an initial investment of $100 million (130 billion won) in Anthropic in 2023, holding about 0.3% equity.
Jung said, "SK Telecom needs Anthropic in infrastructure and data businesses, and Anthropic is also pushing to secure its own computing power, so there are areas we can discuss together," adding, "SK Telecom is not facing financial difficulties at the moment, and there are areas to continue cooperating with Anthropic, so we have no plans to dispose of equity right away."
