NC unveiled the next installment of its popular series "Guild Wars," titled "Guild Wars 3," at a global game show.
NC said on the 8th that it unveiled Guild Wars 3 for the first time at the global game show "Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2026."
Guild Wars is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) series developed by ArenaNet, NC's North American development studio. It is regarded as a global hit, with a cumulative 29 million users to date. Guild Wars 3 is the first official numbered sequel since Guild Wars 2.
Guild Wars 3 is set about 1,000 years before the original Guild Wars. The story unfolds in Orr, a region of Tyria, a frontier imbued with the world's magic, and players become members of the adventurer guild "Veilwarden," which protects the wild spirits and the land of Orr, to embark on their journey.
The game features a combat system optimized for console controllers and keyboard play. Through the Guild Wars series' distinctive character customization and progression systems, players can explore the world freely.
Guild Wars 3 is slated for global release on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. This is the first time the Guild Wars series will launch on a console platform. NC plans to run a beta test in the second half of 2027, and the service languages will include Korean. ArenaNet plans to sequentially unveil additional information on Guild Wars 3 from the second half of this year through 2027.
Colin Johanson, ArenaNet studio head and Guild Wars 3 director, said, "Guild Wars 3 will be a new turning point not only for the Guild Wars series but also for the MMORPG genre," adding, "Our goal is to provide a new gameplay experience through an online world with realism, immersion, and innovation that matches what MMORPG players around the world are waiting for, and to present a space where we can create new stories together with the player community."
