Nota, a corporations specializing in AI model lightweighting and optimization, said on the 8th that it was finally selected as a participating company for the project titled "environment-adaptive, multipurpose On-device AI-based urban safety network demonstration and diffusion," part of the "2026 On-device AI service demonstration and diffusion project" promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA).
The project is worth about 10.7 billion won. The lead organization is Chungnam Technopark, and Nota will join a consortium with South Chungcheong Province and Cheonan.
The business sites include major areas in need of disaster and public safety response, such as rivers in Cheonan, underpasses, riverside roads, and crime-prone areas. The goal is to detect disaster and everyday safety situations early—such as flooding, vehicle entry, and abnormal behavior—by using sensor data and CCTV (closed-circuit TV) footage from each location.
In this project, Nota is responsible for developing a vision-language model (VLM)-based composite risk detection AI model and optimizing it for the On-device environment. Using the AI model lightweighting and optimization platform "NetsPresso," the company plans to slim down the vision-language model (VLM) to fit the Mobilint Neural Processing Unit (NPU) environment and implement an AI solution that can quickly recognize various risk factors in urban safety sites.
A Nota official said, "The core of this project is to expand the existing city control structure—centered on a central server and control personnel—into a field-centered intelligent response system," adding, "AI terminals directly perceive risk situations and link with on-site equipment such as barriers, electronic signboards, and speakers to support immediate responses, which can help secure the golden time when disasters occur."
The company plans to use this project as a springboard to build a disaster safety response model that can be expanded to local governments nationwide.
Nota CEO Chae Myeong-su said, "This project is an important case of applying On-device AI to public infrastructure directly tied to citizen safety," adding, "Nota will contribute to building an urban safety network that can quickly perceive and respond to disasters in the field based on On-device AI optimization technology."
