Kakao Entertainment said on the 5th that it will release a webtoon adaptation of Kakao Page's popular web novel "Even if I fall into a ghost story, I still have to go to work" (hereafter "Ghost story commute").
"Ghost story commute" is a flagship Kakao Page intellectual property (IP) with a cumulative 370 million views. It ranked No. 1 across all webtoon and web novel genres on Kakao Page last year.
The original is a modern fantasy novel about Kim Sol-eum, a new hire on the field exploration team at "Daydream Co.," who directly investigates urban ghost stories and builds a survival manual. It gained popularity with the premise of going to work even after falling into a ghost story and with an original development that analyzes and breaks through the hidden rules within the ghost stories.
The work also drew attention as the next project from writer Baek Deok-su, who created a new culture called the "typeface idol fandom" among Gen Z (born after 1995) with "If you can't debut, you die."
This webtoon focuses on meticulously reconstructing the original's distinctive pacing and mood. The artwork is by writer Ssyung-nyung, who proved their chops with "Failed to abandon the mastermind." It vividly conveys the sensation that readers are joining the exploration themselves by designing, to match the scroll flow, the growing sense of unease that piles up in a space that looks like an ordinary company, the tension at the moment of recognizing the rules within the ghost stories, and the timing when the entities within the ghost stories fully reveal themselves.
The "Ghost story commute" webtoon will be released at 10 p.m. on Kakao Page.
