KT will combine its 5G and LTE pricing systems into one.
KT said on June 5 that it will launch a new "integrated plan" on July 1 that anyone can subscribe to regardless of smartphone device type or network method.
With this overhaul, new subscriptions to the existing 105 types of 5G and LTE plans will end on July 1. Existing subscribers can keep their current plans. Because 5G and LTE plans have been run separately, consumers have been inconvenienced by having different choices depending on their device and network method.
The new lineup has been streamlined to 18 types, including "Choice," which offers fully unlimited data, and "Basic," which can be selected by data allowance. KT applied a data-safety option across all tiers so that even after using up the basic data, customers can continue using data without extra charges. The Basic 110GB plan offers speeds up to 5Mbps, Basic 14GB and above up to 1Mbps, and the low-cost 10GB-and-under tier provides 400Kbps.
Benefits by age are also applied automatically. "School-Plus" applies to children age 13, and "Y-Plus" applies to youth age 18 and older, doubling their data. Additional data benefits are also added for senior customers age 65 and older and age 75 and older.
KT will also expand benefits for welfare-eligible customers, including military personnel and people with disabilities. Kim Young-geol, head of KT's Customer Business Division (senior vice president), said, "We redesigned the plan structure from the customer's perspective," and noted, "We will continue to increase benefits that reflect the life cycle and usage patterns."
