LG Electronics is launching a campaign to encourage setting air conditioners to the proper temperature to save energy in the summer.

LG Electronics said on the 4th that it will run this year's energy-saving campaign, "ThinQ 26-degree Challenge," together with the Korea Energy Agency (KEA).

The campaign is a program that encourages setting the desired air conditioner temperature to 26 degrees, the government-recommended cooling temperature. LG Electronics and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) have run the campaign since 2024 and are holding the third season this year.

According to LG Electronics, about 129,000 people participated cumulatively over the past two years. Based on the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) estimate, the cumulative power saved totaled about 2.83 million kWh, which is enough electricity for about 9,200 households to use for one month, calculated on the basis of the average monthly electricity use of 307 kWh for a four-person household in an urban area.

This year's ThinQ 26-degree Challenge season 3 runs for about three months from June 1 to Aug. 31, the peak summer period when power use concentrates. Customers who wish to participate can register their air conditioner in the AI home platform "LG ThinQ" app and join the campaign by agreeing to the energy-saving pledge and the collection and use of personal information on the event page.

During the campaign period, participants need to use the air conditioner with the desired temperature set to 26 degrees or higher for at least 10 hours. The LG ThinQ app automatically analyzes and calculates the desired temperature and usage time to verify mission completion.

LG Electronics and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) are also holding a prize event for participants. Winners selected by drawing will receive items such as an LG Styler, an LG PuriCare Hydrotower, an LG Wine Cellar Mini, and Baemin gift certificates. In addition, customers who purchase or subscribe to Grade 1 energy-efficiency products at the LG Electronics Best Shop will receive 50,000 won in Onnuri gift certificates on a first-come, first-served basis.

LG Electronics is also expanding AI features to reduce energy use. The 2026 LG Whisen air conditioner is equipped with a radar sensor that detects the user's location and the indoor environment and applies the "AI Breeze" feature to deliver airflow suited to the situation. It also offers an "Away Power Saver" mode that reduces energy consumption by up to 77% when no one is present, and a "Power Saving Planner" feature that automatically adjusts the air conditioner to meet a set target power consumption.

Jeong Ki-hyun, executive vice president and head of the HS Platform Business Center at LG Electronics, said, "Based on LG ThinQ and differentiated AI-based energy management features, we will spread an air conditioner usage culture in which customers join energy saving in their daily lives."
