Naver Webtoon said on the 29th it will start serializing the new horror/occult title "Blind Obedience" on the 30th.
Blind Obedience is a spinoff webtoon of the film Exhuma, which drew 10 million moviegoers. It portrays exorcist Hwa-rim and Bong-gil in their high school days, telling how the two first became connected and the hidden stories before the film. It begins when Bong-gil, a student at the same school, appears before high schooler Hwa-rim, who has been concealing an identity after becoming entangled in childhood with the snake deity "Jin."
The title "Blind Obedience" (盲從) means "to follow unquestioningly whatever one is told, regardless of right or wrong," in other words, "to follow unconditionally."
This work is the next title from writer Haemuri, who presented Naver Webtoon's Stray Bullets. Having shown tense character dynamics and dense psychological depiction in the previous work, Haemuri plans to use Blind Obedience to render the unease and immersion unique to the horror/occult genre.
Lee Hyun-jung, managing director of the film business division at SHOWBOX, the distributor of Exhuma, said, "It is meaningful that the spinoff story of Exhuma, loved by many viewers, is expanding by meeting the new medium of webtoons."
Lee Jeong-geun, Korea Webtoon content lead at Naver Webtoon, said, "Ahead of summer, we are unveiling the new horror/occult title Blind Obedience," adding, "With Haemuri's signature tight direction added to the story of Hwa-rim and Bong-gil's high school years, who left a strong impression in Exhuma, we expect it to be a welcome work for fans of the genre."
