SK Telecom will combine its rate plan system, which had been split into 5G and LTE, into one. It will simplify the selection structure so customers can choose plans based on the device they use and their data usage, and it will expand the scope of "安心(Ansim) data" coverage so basic communications can continue even after data runs out.
SK Telecom on the 29th announced an overhaul of its rate plan system, including the launch of integrated 5G-LTE plans, a revamp of bundled products, and the provision of basic speeds after data is used up. The overhaul will proceed in the order of applying "national安心(Ansim) data" starting July 1, launching new plans, and then revamping bundled products.
The centerpiece is the new "Best·Lite" plans launching on July 2. Best consists of five options ranging from 89,000 won to 129,000 won per month and offers unlimited data. Lite consists of 11 options ranging from 39,000 won to 79,000 won per month, with data allowances segmented from 6GB to 250GB.
A key feature of these plans is the removal of the network distinction between 5G and LTE. Previously, if a 5G device user subscribed to an LTE plan, they could use only the LTE network, but under the new plans, both 5G and LTE can be used within the range supported by the device. Ten existing plans, including T Plan Save and T-kiri Customized, will also be converted to integrated plans, enabling 5G use even with plans in the 20,000-won range.
The overhaul is seen as a move to reduce the network distinction that remained in the plan selection process even after 5G adoption. Consumers will be able to choose products based on actual data usage and additional benefits, rather than device type and plan names. The telecom industry also sees the plan simplification potentially leading to competition in mid- to low-priced plans and a reshuffle of bundled products.
With the launch of the new plans, 67 existing 5G and LTE plans will stop accepting new subscribers starting July 2. Existing subscribers, however, can continue using their current plans.
Bundled products will also be adjusted. SK Telecom will change "Yozeum Family Bundle" from July 1 so customers can sign up with mobile lines only. Previously, bundling mobile and internet lines was required, but going forward, two-person households or cohabitants who do not use fixed-line internet will be able to receive bundle discounts remotely. Some legacy bundles, such as T+Internet and T-kiri Whole Family Discount, will accept new subscriptions only until July 31.
Age-specific benefits will also switch to an automatic application method. Best and Lite subscribers will receive data and discount benefits by age group—such as teenagers, young adults, and seniors—without choosing separate specialized plans. Coffee, movie, and roaming discounts will also be offered to young adults and teenagers.
Measures to ensure access to communications after data runs out will also be expanded. SK Telecom will apply "national安心(Ansim) data" for free starting July 1 to 107 LTE plans that previously did not include安心(Ansim) data. The product allows continued communication at speeds up to 400 kbps even after all basic data is used. Existing paid安心(Ansim) options will be automatically canceled and replaced with free安心(Ansim) data.
Yoon Jae-ung, SK Telecom Deputy Minister for Product & Brand, said, "We hope this overhaul of the rate plan system will make it easier and more comfortable for customers to use communication services," and added, "We will continue to refine our service system to improve customer benefits."
