It appears that the number of domestic users of OpenAI's coding-dedicated AI tool "ChatGPT Codex" has increased nearly tenfold this year.
OpenAI stated accordingly at the "Exec Summit," a leadership event for domestic corporations held in Korea for the first time. At the event held in Seoul on the 27th, OpenAI discussed the practical application and expansion of enterprise artificial intelligence (AI). About 130 executives from major corporations attended the event, which was held under the theme of "intelligence in the workplace."
The event focused on how AI operates in practice within corporations' systems, data, and work processes, beyond personal productivity tools. OpenAI said, "Weekly active users of ChatGPT Codex in Korea have increased tenfold compared with the beginning of the year," noting that such changes are appearing quickly in Korea.
According to OpenAI, more than half of Codex requests in Korea are generated in non-development tasks such as document drafting, analysis, research, and operations. A company official said, "This shows that AI is expanding beyond a tool for developers into the everyday work infrastructure of corporations."
Jason Kwon, OpenAI's chief strategy officer (CSO), said in a keynote address that "the foundation of AI adoption is trust and security," and that OpenAI is supporting its cybersecurity initiative "Daybreak" so that security organizations at Korean government agencies and corporations can apply it.
Ashley Kramer, vice president of the enterprise institutional sector, said, "In the AI era, corporate competitiveness is built on how deeply AI is integrated across actual work and systems," adding, "When AI is integrated into teams and workflows, corporations can finally create tangible economic value."
On site, there was a demonstration of how AI agents and Codex analyze complex problems that can arise in corporate work and convert them into actionable deliverables. For example, OpenAI's agent responded to supply chain issues by checking inventory and shipment data, distinguishing points that require human judgment, and then carrying the work through to a financial impact analysis.
Another demonstration introduced a case in which Codex supported the full scope of work, from market opportunity analysis, candidate research, and spreadsheet creation to brand campaign planning, website development, and preparation of executive reports.
As a domestic corporation case, Krafton shared its companywide AI transition and experience using Codex. Krafton declared a transition to an "AI-first" corporation last year and said that as of February this year, the usage rate of Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT companywide reached 97.2%.
Im Kyung-young, vice president of Krafton's Transformation institutional sector, said in a conversation, "Because the AI ecosystem is changing rapidly and there is no single correct answer, it is necessary to encourage diverse experiments and quickly apply tools that fit the organization."
Kim Kyung-hun, head of OpenAI Korea, said, "OpenAI will continue to expand cooperation with domestic corporations so that AI can be safely integrated into actual work and organizational operations and lead to repeatable results in industrial settings, and we will continue support across technology, products, and partnerships."
