Kakao IT solution development subsidiary DK Techin's integrated groupware collaboration tool "Kakao Work" is strengthening its project-based collaboration features.

DK Techin said on the 28th that it will introduce new features, "Channels" and "Threads," to Kakao Work and officially launch them in July.

The new features are designed to keep the existing real-time chat-centric messenger while allowing discussions by work topic and project to be built up systematically. Channels are spaces that gather conversations and materials for specific tasks or projects, and threads are a function that continues detailed discussions in a comment format on individual messages. A key feature is that specific agenda items can be discussed in depth without disrupting the main conversation flow.

DK Techin conducted a beta test in March for Kakao affiliates to check feature stability and usability in real work environments. The company said it completed verification to ensure there would be no issues operating the service even under large traffic loads.

The market for workplace collaboration tools grew quickly after COVID-19 as remote and hybrid work spread. Recently, competition has shifted beyond simple messengers to integrated work platforms that combine project management, document sharing, AI search, and automation features. Kakao Work's latest update is seen as focusing on managing work context and improving productivity as requested by corporate customers.

Kakao Work also added convenience features such as Markdown formatting, channel discovery and previews, and a notification center. It revamped its technical infrastructure as well. By switching the engine to Electron and Rust, initial UI rendering speed became 47% faster, and CPU usage in idle dropped about 96%. WebView loading speed also improved by 93%.

Vice President Kang Hyun-jin of DK Techin said, "Kakao Work is focusing on building an environment where users can work securely and with immersion, based on its proprietary E3 security system," and added, "We will continue to roll out collaborative innovation features and set a new standard in the AI collaboration tool market."

Kakao Work is advancing its AI agent "Work AI" as it expands into a smart work platform. The plan is to boost corporate work efficiency through an in-house search AI that finds internal guidelines and rules in natural language, real-time multilingual translation, and image search that recognizes text within images.
