Samsung Electronics will open the door to the use of external Generative AI for employees in the DX (finished goods) institutional sector to boost productivity. Until now, Samsung Electronics has operated a work environment centered on in-house AI models, citing security concerns.

Samsung Electronics said on the 26th that it will introduce external Generative AI services into the work of employees in the DX institutional sector in June. The aim is to combine Generative AI provided by global big tech with employees' work to speed up decision-making and improve productivity, and to respond more quickly to market changes across all areas including product planning, development, and marketing. At the same time, it will continue to advance its in-house Generative AI model, "Samsung Gauss."

Samsung Electronics has been conducting verification and reviews so that the introduction of internal and external Generative AI can be practically applied to employees' work. With an official launch targeted for June, it is currently formulating and checking detailed operating policies.

The introduction of external Generative AI was pursued to strengthen the global competitiveness of the DX institutional sector. Samsung Electronics plans to integrate external AI into employees' work environment for insight generation at the product and service planning stage, global marketing and communications, multilingual overseas business response, and market and customer data analysis.

The move follows the management policy of Roh Tae-Moon, CEO (president) of Samsung Electronics and head of the DX institutional sector. In a New Year's address on Jan. 1, Roh said, "AX (AI transformation) is not a simple tool but a process that fundamentally changes our thinking and work processes," adding, "We must organically integrate AI technology across all devices and the service ecosystem of the DX institutional sector to deliver the best experience to customers."

◇ Technology validation completed for 2,500 people

To introduce external Generative AI services, Samsung Electronics carried out procedures including ▲ review of service candidates ▲ proof of concept (PoC) for employees ▲ service selection based on preference surveys ▲ granting usage rights after completing security training ▲ establishment and review of operating policies. It is also preparing detailed operating policies that reflect diverse job and organizational characteristics. The PoC, conducted for 2,500 employees from April to May, covered three Generative AI services: Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude.

Samsung Electronics plans to grant external Generative AI usage rights only to employees who complete security training. The measure aims to control security risks associated with using external AI while ensuring gains in work productivity.

◇ Expanding the "AI transformation" across manufacturing sites

Samsung Electronics is extending its AI transformation strategy beyond employees' work environments to manufacturing sites. On Mar. 1, it said it would convert all domestic and overseas production plants into AI Driven Factory by 2030. Samsung Electronics plans to push a companywide AI transformation centered on two pillars: an AI Driven Company for employees' work domains and AI Driven Factory on the manufacturing floor.

An AI Driven Factory refers to a plant that applies AI across all manufacturing processes. It introduces Digital Twin–based simulations from material inbound through production and shipment, and strengthens data-driven analysis and pre-verification through AI agents in quality, production, and logistics.

Samsung Electronics is also pursuing the phased introduction of humanoid manufacturing robots across all processes. It plans to combine operating bots that manage production lines and equipment, logistics bots that handle material transport, and assembly bots that perform assembly processes with AI to advance manufacturing sites.
