Samsung Electronics said on the 26th it will supply a large volume of high-efficiency heat pump solutions to a large-scale multifamily dwelling complex being built in Poland. This will also incorporate Samsung Electronics' artificial intelligence (AI)-based business-to-business (B2B) solution SmartThings Pro. Samsung Electronics plans to create a smart residential environment with strengthened energy management and integrated device control.

Polish energy supplier Ekopark is pursuing a project to build residential complexes on a site of about 825,000 square meters across 370 buildings in the metropolitan Bialystok area in northeastern Poland, as well as in the cities of Przeworsk, Nákło, and Bielsk Podlaski. Samsung Electronics will supply the high-efficiency large outdoor heat pump unit DVM S2, enhanced with AI features, and the indoor heat pump unit DVM Hydro Unit for the project. In Poland, the government provides subsidies to reduce carbon emissions in line with Europe's carbon neutrality policy, and sales of heat pump products are steadily growing.

The DVM S2 features an active AI function that learns the environment in real time to save energy and deliver optimal heating performance. The indoor DVM Hydro Unit connects with the outdoor DVM S2 to provide hot water and heating up to 80°C. Because the product uses the refrigerant employed for heating to also supply hot water, it generates less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel-based boilers. Since it runs on electricity, it also reduces users' energy expense compared with conventional boilers.

SmartThings Pro, which will be applied to this project, provides a solution to centrally manage multifamily dwelling complexes spread across four different cities. SmartThings Pro offers connectivity based on the internet to centrally manage buildings or residential complexes located far apart.

Each complex will adopt the Device Management Solution (DMS), a system that can control indoor and outdoor heat pump units installed inside buildings. DMS also centrally controls heating and hot-water facilities connected to heat pump products, managing building-wide heating more efficiently.

In addition, by linking with SmartThings Pro, it can systematically manage and control not only machine room equipment but also smart devices across the entire complex and in public facilities. Residential complex managers can view energy use by building at a glance through an integrated dashboard and monitor anomalies in real time to manage energy efficiently. AI also analyzes real-time operating data from system air conditioners and, through a failure prediction and diagnosis function that forecasts faults in advance, enables early detection of abnormal signs and appropriate action.

Samsung Electronics also said last month it would supply high-efficiency heat pump HVAC solutions and SmartThings Pro to a large-scale residential complex redevelopment project underway in Cornwall, the United Kingdom, as it moves to expand smart energy-based residential solutions in the European market.

Im Sung-taek, vice president of the DA Division at Samsung Electronics, said, "We will further advance Samsung Electronics' differentiated heat pump technology and integrated management system to strengthen our B2B competitiveness."
