SK Telecom will roll out a new "YouTube Premium Lite" plan through its subscription service platform "T Universe."
SK Telecom said on the 26th that it will launch a T Universe plan that lets users subscribe to YouTube Premium Lite on its own and offer it at 7,900 won per month, below the list price.
YouTube Premium Lite is a subscription plan that lets viewers watch most YouTube videos without ad interruptions. It also supports offline downloads and background play. However, YouTube Music is not included. When using music content or Shorts in the YouTube app, offline downloads and background play may be restricted, and ads may appear.
SK Telecom priced the new plan below the list price of 8,500 won per month on Android and 10,900 won per month on iOS. Through T Universe, customers can subscribe to YouTube Premium Lite for 7,900 won per month.
A launch promotion is also underway. From May 26 to June 30, SKT will offer a 1+1 promotion that waives the second month's subscription fee for customers who sign up for the standalone plan during the one-month period.
The new plan appears aimed at customers with high demand for video viewing who feel burdened by the existing premium plan that includes YouTube Music. Telecom subscription platforms are also continuing a trend of broadening customer touchpoints by bundling global video services in addition to OTT, shopping, and everyday benefits.
