Anthropic, the developer of the artificial intelligence (AI) model "Claude," is on the verge of posting its first quarterly profit.
Bloomberg News reported on the 20th (local time), citing sources, that Anthropic's second-quarter revenue this year is expected to reach $10.9 billion (about 16 trillion won). That would be more than double the first-quarter revenue of $4.8 billion (about 7.2 trillion won). Second-quarter operating profit was estimated at $559 million (about 840 billion won).
Anthropic was once seen as lagging behind rival OpenAI, but it has been growing rapidly on the back of advanced AI agent capabilities and expansion of services for corporations. In particular, it is maintaining revenue growth by increasing its market share among corporate customers.
However, with continued expansion of AI computing resources and infrastructure investment expense, it is seen as difficult to sustain steady profits going forward. According to Reuters, Anthropic recently signed a large contract with SpaceX to secure AI computing infrastructure. Anthropic reportedly agreed to pay $1.25 billion (about 1.9 trillion won) per month for the use of AI computing infrastructure through 2029.
Meanwhile, Anthropic is reportedly in talks to raise new funding that would value the company at more than $900 billion (about 1,350 trillion won). If the fundraising goes through, there is speculation it could surpass OpenAI by corporate value.
On the 6th, CEO Dario Amodei of Anthropic also said, "We aimed for 10-fold growth this year, but the actual pace is closer to 80-fold."
