Jun Young-hyun, Samsung Electronics chief executive and head of the Device Solutions (DS) institutional sector (vice chairman), who leads Samsung's semiconductor business, on the 21st urged internal unity regarding the tentative labor-management agreement reached the previous day, saying, "What matters now is to leave behind the time of conflict and move forward with everyone joining forces as one."
The vice chairman, in a message titled "Let's go together again with one heart," posted on the in-house bulletin board that day, said, "Although there were differences of opinion during the negotiations, we were able to confirm that our hearts for the company are aligned," and stated accordingly.
With the labor dispute that had escalated to the brink of a general strike dramatically resolved, it is seen as a move to stabilize the internal mood and the organization ahead of a vote by union members.
The vice chairman said, "The outcome was possible thanks to the dedication of our employees who did their best in their roles without wavering even during the prolonged negotiations," adding, "There must have been no small amount of concern and disappointment during the process, and we take that to heart."
He also expressed gratitude to the union. The vice chairman said, "I sincerely thank the labor union and its members for their hard work in reaching a tentative agreement through dialogue and compromise despite difficult circumstances," and stressed, "Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will work with greater responsibility to strengthen global competitiveness and achieve sustainable growth."
He also encouraged the vote on the tentative agreement scheduled from the 22nd to the 27th. As the final settlement hinges on the result of the vote, it appears aimed at consolidating internal support.
The vice chairman said, "The tentative agreement still has the step of gathering the intentions of union members," and urged, "For the future of the company and its members, please come together and unite your wills."
He added, "If we work together based on mutual respect and trust, I believe we can once again achieve a greater leap forward," and said, "We will continue to listen to the efforts and dedication of our employees and strive continuously to create a better working environment."
The "2026 wage negotiation tentative agreement" reached by Samsung Electronics labor and management includes the creation of a "special management performance bonus" funded by 10.5% of business performance in the semiconductor institutional sector, and an average wage increase of 6.2% (a 4.1% base increase and a 2.1% performance increase).
