KT will strengthen its personal information protection system in step with advances in AI technology and the spread of data-based services.

KT said on the 21st it will establish a Personal Information Protection Advisory Committee to restore customer trust and build an ecosystem for responsible data use. The advisory committee will serve as strategic governance to prepare a preventive personal information management system and will check personal information protection standards and safeguards that meet customer expectations.

The inaugural advisory members include Yeom Heung-ryeol, emeritus professor of information security at Soonchunhyang University; Lee Hee-jung, professor at the School of Law at Korea University; Lyu Jae-cheol, professor at the School of Computer Convergence at Chungnam National University; Son Ki-uk, professor of computer engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Sim Sang-hyeon, secretary-general of the Korea CPO Forum; and Kim Kyung-ha, CEO of JN Security.

The committee will advise on fulfilling obligations as a personal information processor, safety safeguards, appropriateness of data use, and measures to advance systems for preventing leaks and preventing recurrences. KT will hold an inaugural ceremony this month, where CEO Park Yoon-young is scheduled to present letters of appointment to the commissioners.

Kim Chang-o, head of KT's Personal Information Protection Group (senior vice president), said, "In the AI era, customer trust in personal information protection is as important as innovation in data use," and added, "We will work with external experts to create a trusted data environment that customers can rely on."
