In the past month, major artificial intelligence (AI) applications (apps) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude recorded the highest number of users in Korea on record.
According to app analytics service WiseApp·Retail, ChatGPT's monthly active users (MAU) in the past month reached 23.45 million, a new all-time high. Gemini and Claude recorded MAUs of 8.45 million and 2.41 million, respectively. These, too, are record highs.
The app with the largest year-over-year increase in users was Claude, with a growth rate of 1,148%. That means users grew about 12 times in a year. Gemini jumped 1,034%, and ChatGPT rose 34%.
By gender distribution, ChatGPT had a higher share of female users at 52.1% than male users at 47.9%. In contrast, Gemini and Claude had a higher share of male users. Claude had the highest share of male users at 62.1%.
By age group, ChatGPT had the highest share of users in their 40s, while Gemini and Claude had the highest share in their 20s. However, the shares among people in their 20s to 40s did not differ greatly, remaining in the 20% range, indicating they are the age groups most actively using AI.
