LG Electronics is launching Battery Turn, a customer-participation resource-circulation campaign that collects vacuum cleaner batteries to protect the environment and show love for neighbors at the same time.

LG Electronics said on the 18th that, with support from the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy, it will run Battery Turn, a customer-participation resource-circulation campaign, jointly with the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) and E-Circulation Governance through the 30th of next month. Battery Turn is a resource-circulation project that gives customers who return used vacuum cleaner batteries a practical discount when purchasing a new battery; the collected batteries are reborn as key rare metals such as nickel, cobalt, lithium and manganese after a systematic and safe dismantling process. Since 2022 through last year, the cumulative number of customers who participated in the campaign is about 170,000. The collected waste batteries weigh about 128 tons (t), numbering more than 280,000. The rare metals extracted through this amounted to more than 11 tons.

LG Electronics plans to use part of the fund raised by this campaign to support child welfare facilities. The company said, "By expanding beyond simple resource circulation to social contribution activities for underprivileged groups, we added further meaning to the campaign."

LG Electronics increased the discount benefits in this year's campaign. Customers who visit LG Electronics service centers nationwide and return used vacuum cleaner batteries, regardless of manufacturer, can receive a 40,000 won discount—up from last year's 30,000 won—when purchasing a new cordless stick vacuum battery.

Customers who find it difficult to visit an LG Electronics service center can apply on the online brand shop and then return the used batteries to a nearby waste appliance collection box. The locations of the collection boxes can be checked on the Resource Circulation Practice Platform, and after returning the batteries, customers can purchase a battery at a 25,000 won discount on the LG Electronics online brand shop.

This year, LG Electronics was selected in the Top 1%—the highest tier—for the third straight year in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) released by S&P Global, a global credit rating agency. It was also included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJ BIC) World Index for the 14th consecutive year and received an AA rating in the ESG assessment by MSCI, a leading global ESG rating agency.

Son Chang-woo, head of the Living Solution Business Unit at LG Electronics, said, "As a corporation leading the industry, we will go beyond providing customers with the best product experience and continue responsible management that builds a circular economy for the environment and society."
