Krafton's new title "Subnautica 2" surpassed 1 million copies sold immediately after it launched in early access on the 15th.
Krafton said "Subnautica 2," developed by its U.S. subsidiary Unknown Worlds, surpassed a cumulative 1 million copies sold on the day it launched in early access. "Subnautica 2" is the sequel to the popular ocean adventure game "Subnautica," which has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. It launched simultaneously on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S that day.
"Subnautica 2" is set on an alien planet different from the previous installment and features vivid depictions of an unknown ecosystem through graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5. For the first time in the series, it introduces a co-op mode for up to four players, allowing teammates to devise survival strategies together and share the rewards of exploration.
The new title ranked No. 1 on Steam's global top sellers list and maintained a "very positive" rating from Steam users. The "cinematic trailer" released on Apr. 30 topped 10 million cumulative views, and the "gameplay trailer" released on the 9th of this month surpassed 5 million views.
Lee Jin-hyeong, Krafton headquarters head, said, "The fact that 'Subnautica 2' topped Steam's global wishlist for 36 straight weeks, sold 1 million copies on launch day, and ranked No. 1 on Steam's global sales is an indicator of the high level of trust shown by players around the world."
