Com2uS said its operating profit grew in the first quarter on the back of solid growth in its baseball games, but revenue fell due to weak performance in role-playing games (RPGs).
Com2uS disclosed on the 13th that first-quarter revenue on a consolidation basis was 144.7 billion won, down 5.9% from a year earlier. Operating profit rose 206.9% in the same period to 5.1 billion won. Net loss came to 8.3 billion won, swinging to a loss.
Com2uS said profitability improved in the first quarter thanks to the performance of its baseball game lineup based on the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and Major League Baseball (MLB), and a focus on expense efficiency.
By genre, revenue from sports games rose 23.8% to 63.9 billion won from a year earlier. In contrast, RPG revenue fell 25.1% to 56.6 billion won, partly due to the off-season for "Summoners War: Sky Arena."
Overseas revenue was 79.4 billion won and domestic revenue was 51.2 billion won, with overseas revenue accounting for 60.8% of the total. By region, the revenue mix was Korea 39.2%, Asia 24.3%, North America 24.1%, and Europe 10%.
Com2uS said it will strengthen growth momentum in the second half of the year by rolling out competitive new titles. First, in the third quarter, it will release in Korea a new AAA-grade massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), "Zeus: God of Arrogance." It is also preparing "Crimson Inferno," based on the popular Japanese animation of the same name, with a goal of launching within the year.
In addition, it plans to expand its content-based lineup with titles such as "Gachiakuta: The Game" (working title) and games based on the intellectual property (IP) of "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" and "A-Rank Party."
For the baseball game lineup, the strategy is to sustain growth through ongoing promotions and content updates aligned with the seasonal flow of domestic and overseas leagues such as the KBO and MLB.
A Com2uS official said, "We will further solidify our mid- to long-term growth base by combining our existing flagship titles and competitive new releases with external IPs that have influence in the global market."
