Samsung Electronics' Future Robotics Task Force has moved to expand its workforce. At the same time, it will increase headcount in the artificial intelligence transformation (AX) department.
According to the industry on the 8th, Samsung Electronics' DX (finished goods) institutional sector posted a job posting (in-house recruitment notice) for the Future Robotics Task Force at the end of last month and is accepting applications through today. Ahead of hiring, the company also held a separate briefing for employees to share the task force's role and duties. Samsung Electronics also conducted experienced hiring and job postings for the Future Robotics Task Force last year.
The Future Robotics Task Force was newly established after Samsung Electronics secured the position of largest shareholder of the robot platform specialist Rainbow Robotics at the end of 2024. It plays a central role in developing Samsung's next-generation robot technologies, including humanoids.
Park Soon-chul, Samsung Electronics chief financial officer (CFO and vice president), said on the first-quarter earnings conference call this year, "Over the past year, under the leadership of Oh Jun-ho, head of the Future Robotics Task Force, we achieved technological progress and laid the groundwork to catch up with leading companies," adding, "By internalizing key robot components, we are securing the capability to directly develop custom parts optimized for the company's robots." The executive added, "We will first develop manufacturing-type robots and, based on the accumulated technology, expand into the home and retail sectors," and "To advance technology and accelerate real-world application, we will focus on building our own technological capabilities, collaborate with competitive domestic firms, and, when necessary, pursue investment in or acquisition of companies."
Through this job posting, Samsung Electronics is also hiring for AX strategy, PM, and development roles. At the end of last year's organizational reshuffle, Samsung Electronics created an "AI Strategy Team" to oversee AX and assigned AX teams to each business division. Recently, the company has been ramping up AX companywide, including by providing AI capability-building training for executives.
