OpenAI plans to introduce an advertising system within the artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT in Korea.
OpenAI said on the 8th that it will expand the "ChatGPT advertising pilot," which is being tested in some countries, to the Korean market in the coming weeks. Adult users on the free and Go plans of ChatGPT are eligible.
According to OpenAI, ads will appear clearly separated from ChatGPT answers and will not affect the content of generated responses. Advertisers cannot access user conversation content or personal information and can view only aggregated performance information such as ad impressions and clicks.
Ads are labeled as sponsored content. Users can hide ads or provide feedback if they want, and they can also manage ad personalization settings. OpenAI said it is designing the system so that ads are not shown in conversations on sensitive or potentially regulated topics.
Ads will not be shown to users on the ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu plans, or to accounts verified or presumed to belong to minors. OpenAI plans to provide separate in-service guidance to users subject to ads.
Dave Dugan, OpenAI's global head of solutions, said, "As corporations show strong interest in how to reach users in conversational, intent-based environments, we are expanding the regions for the ChatGPT advertising pilot," adding, "OpenAI will put user experience and trust first and will carefully operate the ad experience in each region."
