Artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure corporations Ellis Group said on the 7th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with battery specialist corporations Standard Energy for joint development of an "AI modular data center (PMDC) and VIB-based power solution."

The two corporations agreed to jointly develop a high-efficiency power infrastructure solution by integrating Standard Energy's "vanadium ion battery (VIB)" technology into Ellis Group's AI modular data center, "Ellis AI PMDC." They will also jointly develop a modular uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and a battery energy storage system (BESS) optimized for PMDC environments, and advance an energy management system (EMS) that analyzes and predicts energy use patterns using AI.

Ellis Group will support AI application technologies based on PMDC operational data, and Standard Energy will handle stable supply and standardization of vanadium ion batteries.

The vanadium ion battery developed by Standard Energy uses an electrolyte with water as the main component, unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries, blocking fire outbreaks. It is drawing attention for enabling stable power supply in AI data center environments, where power consumption and heat generation are high due to operation of high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs).

Building on this collaboration model, the two corporations plan to jointly participate in the government-led national AI data center (AIDC) construction project and target both public and private data center markets together.
