SK Telecom said on the 6th that it was included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class (DJ BIC, formerly DJSI) World Index in 2026.
DJ BIC is a sustainability assessment index published annually by S&P Global. It is widely used as a benchmark to gauge the sustainability management level of global corporations and to aid investor decision-making.
The DJ BIC World Index evaluates more than 2,500 corporations by market capitalization worldwide, and selects only the top 10% of corporations with the best sustainability management levels in each industry as the highest-grade index. Among telecommunications corporations worldwide, only seven were included in the World Index, and among domestic telecommunications corporations, SKT is the only one. Since first being included in 2008, SKT has been part of this index for a total of 17 years.
SK Telecom said, "This inclusion in the index reflects, in a comprehensive way, companywide sustainability efforts, including strengthening board-centered responsible management, advancing supply chain ESG (environmental, social, and governance) programs, refining climate governance systems, and reinforcing industrial safety and health management."
SK Telecom restricts outside directors and auditors from holding concurrent positions and operates various specialized committees to improve the quality of decision-making, regularly evaluating board and committee activities. It is also promoting a "2050 net zero (zeroing greenhouse gas net emissions)" strategy centered on the board's ESG committee. Considering that most emissions come from electricity use, it is connecting greenhouse gas reductions to tangible execution by both reducing energy consumption and expanding power purchase agreements (PPAs) to directly buy renewable energy from power producers. It also provides tailored practical training for partners, including improvement measures for on-site risk assessments and safety rules for high-risk tasks.
