Project Prometheus, an artificial intelligence (AI) startup led by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has closed a $10 billion (about 14.7 trillion won) funding round.
Bloomberg News reported on the 23rd (local time), citing sources, that Prometheus was valued at about $38 billion (about 56.3 trillion won). JPMorgan Chase and BlackRock joined the funding round, but there was no single lead investor, according to the report.
The funding includes $6.2 billion (about 9.2 trillion won) secured in Nov. last year. As investor demand surged, the total raise grew, and Bezos also joined as an early investor.
Prometheus is focusing on developing AI models and tools that support the design and manufacturing of physical products. It is also drawing attention as the company to which Bezos returned to the front line of management as co-CEO after stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021.
In the industry, observers note the significance that Prometheus targets "physical AI" on factory floors in sectors such as manufacturing, aerospace, and semiconductors, unlike chatbot-centered AI. Co-CEO Vic Bajaj is known to have come from Google X and Verily.
