SK Telecom said on the 23rd that it will expand data allowances for its roaming plans for the golden holiday and summer vacation season and run a "first roaming 70% discount" promotion for customers in their 20s and 30s.
The promotion runs from today through Aug. 21. SK Telecom will offer up to an additional 16GB of data at the same price to subscribers of its baro plans and allow continued use at speeds up to 1Mbps even after all basic data is used. The eligible plans are four existing options including "baro 6GB," and four options including "baro YT 7GB" for customers age 34 and under.
In particular, the newly launched "baro 48GB" and "baro YT 49GB" will be expanded to 64GB and 65GB, respectively, during the promotion period. The company said the two plans cost 99,000 won for 30 days, making them useful for long-term stays or for customers who travel abroad multiple times within a month.
Customers born between 1986 and 2006 who have not used T Roaming in the past 36 months will also receive a "first roaming 70% discount" benefit. Those customers can use one of the baro and baro YT plans once at a price 70% off the regular rate. Family travelers can also use "Family Roaming," which allows up to five people to share data for an additional 3,000 won.
SK Telecom said cumulative users of its baro plans, available in 195 countries worldwide, surpassed 15.67 million as of the 19th. The industry expects competition among the three telecom companies over roaming perks to intensify as demand for overseas travel grows ahead of the May holidays and the summer peak season.
