At the 39th Edison Awards held in Fort Myers, Florida, on Apr. 15–16, Samsung Electronics won two golds and two silvers, taking home four awards in total.
The Edison Awards, a leading U.S. innovation award that recognizes innovative products and services, honored Samsung Electronics across a wide range of categories, from home appliances and TVs to commercial displays and future housing concepts, acknowledging its human-centered design and AI-based experience design capabilities.
The golds went to the future housing design project "Smart Modular House" and the integrated AI platform for Samsung TVs "Vision AI Companion." The Edison Awards praised Smart Modular House for its ability to flexibly expand spaces like a sauna or an office based on a prefabricated ADU design, integrated IT and architectural standards, and a 1.5-module system. A key feature is that, as life stages change—newlyweds, child-rearing, or after retirement—the home shifts from a fixed structure to an evolving platform.
The direction Samsung Electronics proposed goes beyond simple expansions of dwellings. It naturally blends appliances and AI technology into walls and structures to improve space utilization, and, based on connectivity, manages device status, energy use, and indoor-outdoor environments at a glance. This concept also won at the 2025 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) last year, prompting evaluations that Samsung's future housing vision is not a one-off exhibit but has taken root as an accumulated design asset.
The other gold winner, Vision AI Companion, symbolizes Samsung's strategy to turn the TV from a simple viewing device into a "contextual AI interface." By linking Bixby, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot, the platform lets users ask by voice—while watching a movie—about filming locations, cast information, or sports records and get answers immediately. It also earned high marks for unifying picture and sound quality and information search into a single experience with AI Soccer Mode Pro, AI Sound Control Pro, and AI Upscaling Pro.
The silver winners also combined commercial viability with completeness. The all-in-one washer-dryer "Bespoke AI Combo" handles washing and drying in one go, eliminating the need to transfer clothes after washing. Samsung equipped the product with a 25 kg wash and 20 kg dry capacity, and its AI Wash Plus function detects load weight, fabric type, and soil level to automatically adjust water and detergent usage, wash intensity, and drying temperature and time. Adding a booster heat exchanger to improve dehumidification performance by up to 15% was also cited as a factor that enhances marketability.
The glasses-free 3D display "Spatial Signage" showcased Samsung's technological differentiation in the commercial display market. Using Samsung's proprietary "3D Plate" technology, the product creates depth as if space forms behind the LCD panel while preserving the clarity of 2D content. With an ultra-slim 52 mm thickness for the 85-inch model, 4K UHD resolution, and a 9:16 portrait format, it can present products in visuals that appear to rotate 360 degrees in retail and exhibition spaces. Linked with Samsung VXT's AI Studio, it can easily convert still images into three-dimensional content, another strength. The product also drew attention at ISE 2026, CES 2026, and IFA 2025.
At CES 2026 earlier this year, Samsung put forward "Companion to AI Living," presenting a blueprint to connect TVs, appliances, and living spaces into an AI companion experience. The latest awards are meaningful in that they show the strategy is moving beyond concepts to take concrete shape in products, services, and commercial solutions. Mauro Porcini, chief design officer of the DX Division at Samsung Electronics, said, "We are working to translate needs, dreams, and emotions into meaningful experiences based on a deep understanding of people," adding, "We will continue innovations that add real value to life."
