Webtoon Entertainment said on the 14th that it has carried out a global leadership reshuffle to strengthen execution and innovation and created the position of chief business officer (CBO).
The reshuffle was made to integrate regionally operated organizations into a global leadership structure to improve business efficiency and to accelerate global growth through swift execution and innovation.
First, Chae Yu-gi was appointed chief product officer (CPO). Chae, as CPO, will oversee product organizations that had been dispersed across Korea, Japan, and North America, leading companywide product strategy and innovation. Based on experience overseeing the English service "WEBTOON," operating Japan's "LINE Manga," and serving as head of the Korea service, Chae will be responsible for strengthening global product competitiveness.
The newly created chief business officer (CBO) role was filled by Yeon Go-eun, former chief growth marketing officer (CGMO) at Woowa Brothers. Yeon, as CBO, will oversee global webtoon and Korea businesses excluding Japan, handling key business areas such as content, creator support, marketing, and growth.
Chief financial officer (CFO) David Lee will concurrently serve as president of Wattpad and seek business improvement by strengthening ad-supported free content and expanding the creator community. Accordingly, the existing chief operating officer (COO) position was abolished.
To strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, Jang Tae-young was newly appointed head of AI. Jang will lead the advancement of core technologies such as AI-based work efficiency, content recommendations, translation, and copyright protection.
In addition, Kim Shin-hyung was appointed head of the IP business to drive the discovery of "mega IP" targeting the global market and the expansion of the IP value chain into video, games, and merchandise.
