Naver ended its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) search service "Clova X" and began restructuring its search service.
Naver said on the 9th on its website that it had ended Clova X operations.
Since its beta launch in Aug. 2023, Clova X has served as an experimental platform based on Naver's large language model "HyperCLOVA X." After about 2 years and 8 months of operation, the service has now ended.
Naver said, "Clova X has, as the laboratory of HyperCLOVA X, taken on challenges for diverse everyday uses," and added, "Now we aim to continue experiments and challenges that create value across a broader set of industries."
The shutdown is seen as a strategy to move beyond a single conversational service and integrate AI features across Naver search. The company plans to reorganize functions around an "AI tab" within unified search.
The AI tab is an integrated service in which various vertical agents—such as shopping, local, finance, and health—work together to understand user intent and provide not only information retrieval but also recommendations and execution in one step.
Meanwhile, as part of the search service overhaul, Naver is also streamlining existing features. On the 7th, it also announced that the "related searches" service, which appeared at the top of search results, will end on the 30th of this month.
