Samsung Electronics said on the 31st that it has applied an evolved version of Bixby to artificial intelligence (AI) home appliances.
Samsung Electronics improved Bixby so it responds to users' intent in everyday conversations. By combining the Generative AI service Perplexity with Bixby, it newly supports Open Q&A to provide useful answers in daily life. The upgraded AI features were applied to the 2026 Family Hub, air conditioners, robot vacuum cleaners, water purifiers, and new laundry appliances equipped with 7-inch screens.
The company said, "Based on a large language model (LLM), we enhanced Bixby so users can operate appliances more intuitively and conveniently," and added, "Bixby understands context through information in users' utterances and the context of prior conversations, and provides more suitable responses."
If a user says, "I put beef and mackerel in the Family Hub, so change the mode," the refrigerator understands the utterance and automatically sets the "meat/fish mode." If the user says to the air conditioner, "Turn it on so no air blows out," cooling can start in "WindFree." Settings such as a robot vacuum's low-noise mode or a washer's "denim cycle" can also be activated through conversations with Bixby.
You can also set appliance "automation." It controls devices according to various conditions such as specific times, days of the week, or weather. If a user says to Bixby, "When the laundry is finished, please clean the floor," the robot vacuum starts cleaning after the washer finishes its cycle.
The "device Q&A" feature, which provides appliance management and troubleshooting methods, has also been further advanced. When you ask how to use an appliance, it gives answers by voice, and for appliances with screens, it also provides video guides. If you ask, "How do I clean the ice water dispenser?" voice guidance is provided along with a related instructional video on the screen.
Kim Yong-jae, vice president of the DA Division at Samsung Electronics, said, "Samsung Electronics' Bixby continues to evolve so each product can be used conveniently through natural conversations with users," and added, "We will further advance Bixby and software features so Samsung's AI appliances can serve as companions in the home."
