Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea finalized a large-scale investment plan for the Korean market and unveiled a strategy to introduce Generative AI agents for security incident investigations.
On the 31st, according to the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, AWS Korea disclosed its information security status as of the end of last year on the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) information security disclosure integrated portal and announced this plan.
According to the disclosure, AWS Korea plans to invest an additional about 7 trillion won from 2025 to 2031 to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in Korea. Including the 5.6 trillion won already executed, total investment will reach 12.6 trillion won. AWS Korea said this is the largest-ever investment in Korea by a global cloud provider. The company also projected it will contribute about 15.06 trillion won to Korea's gross domestic product (GDP) from 2023 to 2027.
In the institutional sector for security, it put Generative AI front and center. "AWS Security Incident Response," launched in November last year, is a service in which an AI agent directly investigates security incidents to speed up response. The AWS security agent identifies access users through the "IAM access analyzer" function and helps corporations adopt AI more safely.
WS Korea, along with strengthening its zero-trust architecture, added 114 security control functions last year and also made multifactor authentication mandatory for every account type. Ham Gi-ho, AWS Korea representative executive manager, said, "Information security is AWS's top priority," and added, "We will continue to invest so that Korean corporations can establish a secure foundation throughout the entire process of adopting AI."
