Samsung Global Research is reportedly planning to set up a new base in Tokyo, Japan. It will be the second overseas office after the Beijing office in China, established in 2005.
According to the industry on the 30th, Samsung Global Research is said to have begun preparations to open a Tokyo office, with the aim of establishing it in the second half of this year.
The Tokyo office will be established to strengthen research functions across a range of fields, including Japan's economy and industry, market and consumers, society, and policy. Samsung Global Research will bolster local research capabilities to support the formulation of future strategies for key affiliates, including Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics currently operates an entity in Japan that oversees its smartphone business, and in Yokohama it is also building the Advanced Package Lab (APL), a research and development base for semiconductor packaging.
