Kakao Entertainment said on the 26th that, under new co-CEOs Ko Jeong-hee and Jang Yun-jung, it will strengthen the fusion of technology and content and boost momentum for global growth.
Kakao Entertainment completed the appointment of its CEOs through a regular shareholders meeting and board meeting on the 25th and officially launched the co-CEO system with Ko Jeong-hee and Jang Yun-jung. Based on the new leadership, it plans to advance the synergy between IP and platforms and focus on expanding its global fandom.
Kakao Entertainment has built competitiveness around various content IP such as music, story, and media, as well as its entertainment platform business, expanding its influence at home and abroad. It plans to combine the service strategy and know-how of co-CEO Ko Jeong-hee, centered on platforms and artificial intelligence (AI), with co-CEO Jang Yun-jung's insight and network in IP and global business to strengthen global competitiveness.
With the launch of the new leadership, Kakao Entertainment is reorganizing its business operation system, with the two co-CEOs directly overseeing platforms and global business to speed execution. It is establishing a CPO (Chief Platform Officer) to oversee the platform service business and a Global Growth Center to expand the global business, to be led by co-CEOs Ko Jeong-hee and Jang Yun-jung, respectively. The company plans to more solidly integrate the IP value chain and expand global synergy.
Co-CEO Ko Jeong-hee will concurrently serve as CPO and drive innovation and advancement of IP platforms. Based on user-centric service design and data- and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven innovation know-how, the company will focus on enhancing services on major platforms such as Melon, Kakao Page, and Berriz to strengthen personalized content experiences.
Co-CEO Jang Yun-jung will concurrently serve as head of the Global Growth Center and flesh out the global growth strategy. The company plans to strengthen global competitiveness that spans planning, production, and distribution of IP such as music, story, and media, and expand its global reach by extending and diversifying IP.
Born in 1974, co-CEO Ko Jeong-hee graduated from Seoul Women's University with a degree in Korean language and literature, worked at Daum Communications and Kakao's strategy support team, and has served as head of channels and services at KakaoBank, chief service officer, chief strategy officer, and head of the artificial intelligence (AI) group.
Born in 1980, co-CEO Jang Yun-jung graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies with a degree in English, began at Frost & Sullivan, and went on to serve as vice president and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Korea and as head of the Asia hub. Jang has since led the global business as global head and co-CEO of Kakao Entertainment.
