LG Uplus said it held a board meeting on the 24th and appointed outside director Nam Hyeong-du as the next board chair. It is the first time since LG Uplus was launched that an outside director will serve as board chair.
The company said the appointment is a corporate governance reform measure to strengthen the board's independence and establish a board-centered responsible management system.
New chair Nam is a legal expert who graduated from Seoul National University School of Law and has served as a partner attorney at Lee & Ko, president of the Korea Entertainment Law Association, and a Commissioner of the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Nam is currently a professor at Yonsei University Law School and, since 2022, has served as an outside director of LG Uplus and Chairperson of the internal transactions committee.
An LG Uplus official said, "Director Nam Hyeong-du is the right person with high ethical standards and a strong understanding of governance, capable of faithfully carrying out legal responsibilities and oversight functions," adding, "With the appointment of an outside director as chair, we will strengthen the board's substantive independence, and grow into a corporations more trusted by investors and customers, maximizing shareholder value."
