Vice Chair Im Moon-young of the Presidential Committee on AI and Ha Jung-woo, senior presidential secretary for AI and future planning at the presidential office, met on the morning of the 19th with Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, who is visiting Korea, to discuss ways to expand AI cooperation between Korea and AMD.
At the meeting, the government side introduced a strategy to leap to the "AI Big 3," centered on building a nationwide AI highway, and heard from CEO Su about the outcomes of this visit and her assessment of the Korean market. CEO Su was said to be satisfied that cooperation with domestic AI corporations had become more solid on the occasion of this visit.
The two sides agreed to broaden public-private cooperation so that more Korean corporations can participate in AMD's open AI ecosystem and create synergy, based on the cooperation model built so far. They reached a consensus on moving beyond simple cooperation with individual corporations to strengthen consolidation between Korea's overall AI industry and the global ecosystem.
The discussion also addressed AI transformation and balanced development of regional industries as major agenda items. The two sides agreed on the importance of regional industry AX, including building data centers, and explored multifaceted cooperation plans such as AI software talent development linked to "K-Moonshot" and joint research and development in the process of realizing this.
The Korean government and AMD plan to continue expanding mutually beneficial cooperation to build a global open AI ecosystem.
