Upstage is partnering with AMD to accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) models while moving to build a Korea-style sovereign AI ecosystem.
Upstage said on the 19th that it will expand its strategic partnership with AMD. On the same day, Upstage CEO Kim Seong-hun met with AMD CEO Lisa Su at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul to discuss ways to collaborate for AI innovation in the region.
Under the partnership, Upstage will adopt AMD's AI accelerator Instinct MI355 GPU according to a multi-stage roadmap over the next year. The company plans to use it to develop its own large language model (LLM) Solar and its document-processing AI solutions. As the lead company in the government's independent AI foundation model project, it also decided to actively deploy AMD GPUs to develop the national AI model.
Through this partnership, the two companies plan to enhance the competitiveness of Korea's AI ecosystem and contribute to diversifying the national sovereign AI infrastructure. In particular, they aim to improve performance and efficiency by combining AMD's AI Semiconductor and its open software ecosystem ROCm with Upstage's model development capabilities.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said, "Upstage is at the forefront of Korea's AI innovation by providing advanced language models and AI engines to corporations, governments, and regulated industries," adding, "This partnership will strengthen Korea's sovereign AI capabilities and help expand the open ecosystem."
Upstage CEO Kim Seong-hun said, "The collaboration with AMD will be a key catalyst not only for advancing the Solar model but also for developing the national AI model."
